11th Annual Race For Grace

The 11th Annual Race For Grace 5K & 1 Mile Walk benefits the Reflections Of Grace Foundation. Race For Grace and its beneficiary Foundation are named after Grace Elizabeth Ekis, a precious 5-year-old who lost her courageous 13-month battle with a rare cancerous brain tumor on Valentine’s Day 2008. Grace’s cancer was a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a tumor of the brainstem for which there is no known cure and there have been no advances in treatment options for more than 35 years.

Opening activities begin at 7:00AM, with the race beginning at 9:00AM. We encourage you to register prior to April 2, 2018 to ensure you will receive a race t-shirt. However, we will also accept registrants from 7:00-8:00AM on race day. Extra t-shirts will be ordered, but supplies may be limited. Be sure to arrive early to partake in pre-race entertainment and warm-up routine. Also, breakfast will be available at the concession stand starting at 7:00AM. After the race, there will be an award ceremony, many fun children’s activities, charitable hair donations, dance performances, Chinese & Silent auctions, and full concession stand of lunch items available for purchase. (If you are interested in donating your hair, please email RaceForGrace@reflectionsofgrace.org). Visit our merchandise and awareness area, which will be open throughout the day. The day’s events will conclude around 1:00PM. We look forward to seeing you on April 7, 2018!

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2018

On Saturday, April 21, 2018, Westmoreland County’s eighth annual WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® event, the International Men’s March to End Sexual Assault, Rape and Gender Violence, will kick off at a new location! This year’s Walk will be held at Offutt Field and Stadium in downtown Greensburg. Men and women, families, community leaders, professionals, survivors, students, and residents from across Westmoreland County will walk one mile to raise awareness about the incidence of domestic and sexual violence.  Men are invited to walk in women’s high-heeled shoes as they join their voices with women in speaking out against the social norms and attitudes that perpetuate domestic and sexual violence. Last year, over 1,100 participants including nearly 400 brave men in heels, turned out to make the seventh Walk a huge success.

Organized for Westmoreland County by Blackburn Center, this visually riveting event is a unique and powerful experience, and supports the agency’s call to action in the community to end domestic and sexual violence.  Westmoreland County Commissioners Ted Kopas and Gina Cerilli are leading that call to action by serving again this year as Honorary Chairpersons for the Walk
